چکیده

Two important goals of high-dimensional modeling are prediction and variable selection. In this article, we consider regularization with combined L1 and concave penalties, and study the sampling properties of the global optimum of the suggested method in ultra-high dimensional 10 settings. The L1-penalty provides the minimum regularization needed for removing noise variables in order to achieve oracle prediction risk, while concave penalty imposes additional regularization to control model sparsity. In the linear model setting, we prove that the global optimum of our method enjoys the same oracle inequalities as the lasso estimator and admits an explicit bound on the false sign rate, which can be asymptotically vanishing. Moreover, we establish 15 oracle risk inequalities for the method and the sampling properties of computable solutions. Numerical studies suggest that our method yields more stable estimates than using a concave penalty alone.

Combined effects of concave-convex nonlinearities and indefinite potential in some elliptic problems

We consider a nonlinear Dirichlet problem driven by the p-Laplacian and a reaction which exhibits the combined effects of concave (that is, sublinear) terms and of convex (that is, superlinear) terms. The concave term is indefinite and the convex term need not satisfy the usual in such cases Ambrosetti–Rabinowitz condition. We prove a bifurcation-type result describing the set of positive solut...

Sampling from log-concave non-smooth densities, when Moreau meets Langevin∗

In this talk, a new algorithm to sample from possibly non-smooth log-concave probability measures is introduced. This algorithm uses Moreau-Yosida envelope combined with the Euler-Maruyama discretization of Langevin diffusions. They are applied to a deconvolution problem in image processing, which shows that they can be practically used in a high dimensional setting. Finally, non-asymptotic con...

Characterizations of $L$-convex spaces

In this paper, the concepts of $L$-concave structures, concave $L$-interior operators and concave $L$-neighborhood systems are introduced. It is shown that the category of $L$-concave spaces and the category of concave $L$-interior spaces are isomorphic, and they are both isomorphic to the category of concave $L$-neighborhood systems whenever $L$ is a completely distributive lattice. Also, it i...

Asymptotic Approximations for the Transportation LP and Other Scalable Network Problems

Network optimization problems with a “scalable” structure are examined in this report. Scalable networks are embedded in a normed space and must belong to a closed family under certain transformations of size (number of nodes) and scale (dimension of the norm.) The transportation problem of linear programming (TLP) with randomly distributed points and random demands, the earthwork minimization ...
